Dating Central Europe Acquires Mötesplatsen From Schibsted

After 15 years as owner of Mötesplatsen Swedish and Norwegian premium dating service, Schibsted have chosen to sell it to Hungarian Dating Central Europe, owned by CEO Peter Weiler and Russmedia Equity Partners.

The two companies will form a significant European premium online dating player with presence in 6 markets.

“Dating Central Europe is a perfect owner for the next phase of Mötesplatsen’s journey”, says Peter Grytterhielm COO in Schibsted FS&V.

Dating Central Europe already operates Randivonal which is the Hungarian equivalent to Mötesplatsen. Both products were created at the age of pioneering internet, early start-ups utilizing the advancement of technology to help people bond and meet for meaningful relationships.

“We feel that the DNA of our companies are very similar, both growing a premium dating service over two decades. We are defending successfully a local premium market from international giants. We face the same challenges albeit in three different regions of Europe. I believe that while relying on international synergies our future is depending on local markets. We don’t plan to merge the platforms since each website needs to be relevant on the local environment, carrying cultural differences that we are proud of. The future for us is local and premium.” – says Peter Weiler CEO of Dating Central Europe

Online dating is experiencing a comeback in the premium sectors. Differentiated local brands providing a personalized quality service. The parties involved in the transaction believe that this is the right time to invest in local brands and in teams that have sustained the pressures of the globalized giants.

This is a transformative acquisition for DACE and the first step towards our international ambitions for the company. We believe there is a significant opportunity building a champion of strong local premium dating brands and are delighted to welcome Mötesplatsen and its employees to our group.
